Lesson 5: Last Revision, Word Choice, Putting together the project.
Hello! Right on time! We`re halfway done on the journey that will change your life! Thanks for keeping up! We must say that we`re proud to see you reach this milestone! Now, it’s only a matter of pulling-through and you’ll finish your journey like a champion!
By this lesson, you already have a Canvas that illustrates a clear image of everything involved in your project. You also have a script that helps transmit your message to the world loud and clear. Specially, you have a big amount of tools that you can use into your advantage and you have forged some on the way which makes it a great deal.
Today we´re going to focus on two special points. Firstly, we`ll continue polishing your text. Don’t worry, it’s only the final touches so we can make it splendid! So, if you haven`t finished editing please go, do it! Come back to give the final stockade your text needs.
This is the last draft, no more modifications are allowed by this point. You probably started with one thing and ended up having another. This is good, it means that there was a whole hidden picture that you can see now. This journey is designed to make you see things that no other will see, it helps you exploit those small advantages to create something unique and one-of-a-kind.
The last revision should not be done by yourself. You need a second point of view that may look things in a different way. In this case you have an advisor to revise every entry, however if you would like to show someone your work you are welcome to do so. Remember that gaining allies along the way is extremely important. So, we encourage you to reach out to any ninjakat through The Dojo or any professional person out there that might be interested in your project. Rest assured that if your advisor deems your project excellent, we will contact you to someone amazing that can prolong your journey even further.
On the meantime, let’s look at some tools that might help you improve your editing and make it concise. Grammarly is an extension of your search engine (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, etc.), if you download it, it will automatically give you tips to correct and replace words that seem wrong or unnecessary. Also, there`s a special corner, were you can copy and paste your text and it will analyze it quickly and thoroughly. This corrections are not mandatory but they`re a wise council when it comes to think twice!
The 21st century brought several tools, and they will probably replace us in the future, but that is not today. We can use them into our advantage to create, edit, and compare our own texts. Artificial intelligence is here to stay, we might as well use them to create unique texts. In this case, a simple Google search will lead you to several platforms that will create texts for you. We have no preference for any tool you decide to choose, however, understand that this platforms are designed to help you, not to do all the work for you. Also, look for the free versions, pay ones are great but it’s not necessary for this stage.
We`ll use Copy.ia for this unique case. Ask the intelligence to generate a text containing the exact same subject you are dealing with. For example, create an essay that talks about the adversities that climate change will bring in the near future. When the intelligence has finished computing the answer, read it, is it worthy of your admiration or yours is better? Either way you win! If you think yours is better, which is the most likely outcome, just pay closer attention and look at all the interesting points the intelligence has talked about. Can you include or replace any other key point? It`s your call!
If you think the intelligence is better, compare it to yours in every single way and try to emulate the way they express. Look at the words, is there any special word or phrase you’d like to include or replace? Remember this is the whole point, to enhance your text, not copy it!
Another great tool to proofread is ProWritingAid. It’s similar to Grammarly but it contains far more tips regarding the surrounding matters like identifying the tone of your text and how to make it sound more like what you’re trying to write. For example, if you are trying to persuade but don’t want to sound aggressive, this extension will help you difference the texts and words.
If you require more tools make sure you ask your advisor for complementary tools on precise subjects. You can also research “proofreading tools” and you will cross with very interesting 21st century tools.
And the second point we’ll be focusing today is in putting together the project. By this moment you should have the inner important things already done. Now, we need to focus on developing all the external factors that will make your project come alive. If it’s a podcast you’re building, you should have already identified a streaming platform were you can upload your final product. Now think before that step, do you plan to edit the product? Are you going to use a video editor? If so, have you acquired the necessary skills to do it? Accumulating skills to promote your project is very important, so the mastering of other tools that may come in handy is necessary.
Does your project require visual aids? The first thing you need is a text and then you can start to do everything else. The best visual complements to transmit an idea are PowerPoint presentations, but don’t stop there, you can make dynamic presentations in CANVA and off course in the “Zoom-in” & “Zoom-out” tool Prezi.
Translate your text into the presentation but not literally, only key points and key words. There`s nothing duller than someone that reads literal information, word for word. This is the best way to loose the audience`s attention. So rule number one when making a presentation, no more than one word per sentence, and no more than one image that can replace that word.
Try to be the center of attention, people`s eyes and ears should be upon you and not over your presentation. The visual aid should work to measure your remaining time, as a guidance for you, and as a way to complement, not distract.
Finally, you should start building “hype”. The meaning of this word is similar to “expectations” or “energy”. “Hype” is when a film producer announces that a year from now, the most awaited film will be projected on all the cinemas. Naturally, people create expectations and get filled with positive energy while awaiting for the showcase of the project. You can do this in several ways, inviting people verbally, conducting a promotion, or distributing small pieces of information on platforms so people can see what the showcase of the project will be about. For example: Don`t miss this podcast interview between myself and Sam Nelson, The renowned Marine Biologist debating about Global warming.
One of the best ways to build “hype” is through social networks. Remember that this tools are as useful as the user gives them purpose. It’s a total waste of time if you don`t use it to inquire about knowledge. On the other hand, it’s a tremendous tool if you grab the account and turn it into an asset. First, keep an eye on the target that you want to impact. Do a small research to know which social media platform is the best to reach that target. For example, if your target are a younger audience, you should use Instagram or Tiktok to promote your contents. If they are part of a higher age, you should focus on Facebook. Tell the world not to miss your future outcome.
Probably the best way to build hype on a social network is to create a launch date so people can tune in as soon as you publish your content. Try to be creative on calling everyone`s attention, be as informative as possible without giving them the full information on advance. It should be all about giving small sample appetizers and not the whole dish.
When you have one or two channels (Social media accounts) to promote your outcomes, the project should have a clear face now. It should all go hand by hand, every episode of a podcast should go with 2-3 posts in social media, and an activity to promote your content.
Please be very careful when using social networks, we recommend that you set them up next to a responsible adult or with your advisor. Its all for your protection.
That´s it for today, my friend. See you on the next occasion Ninjakat!
