All done? Ok, let’s go ahead and begin with the very first step of your journey. Remember, every great adventure begins with a small step.
The first thing we ought to establish is your unique and one-of-a-kind project. You are going to focus solely on this idea on the entirety of the journey, step by step.
For now, let’s begin by molding the project piece by piece. As you can imagine by now, the first thing we need is a clear and concise idea of how the project is going to look like at the end.
I introduce you to this powerful tool: This is the Canvas Business Model. We are going to use it as a tool to organize our ideas clearly. This will serve as a clean slate to help the advisor and yourself, to understand the purpose of the outcome.
The clearer the canvas is, the better the idea will turn out. You can find the canvas in the resources page or with a simple search on Google. You may find several examples and all of them are great. It mostly depends on the information you fill in.
Let’s skim through it really quickly.
Key partners: This section means that if you are wishing to impact on a community, you will need allies. In here, list all the people, including institutions or programs that can help you through your journey.
Key activities: Here is where you have to put what your project is going to do. Please specify exactly how it’s going to do it. Include all the where, why, who, when, and what.
Key resources: Otherwise known as tools. This may help you understand what you need to accomplish with the project. Include websites or special technology that you will use to model your idea.
Value proposition: This is the most important section because it tells the world why you are doing it and what makes you different from other similar projects. Put in sentence mode, for example, “I impact positively on the community by doing ————, because I want to ————- (fill in the blanks.).
Customer relationships: In here you should list all the people you are trying to impact. Please explain why are they important. How are they going to reach you? What is their role or participation in this project? Focus on this target for all the project. Tell them your story!
Channels: how are you going to communicate your message? How are those people going to reach and communicate their thoughts? Here you must mix tools with your customer needs to spread the message and procure satisfaction for everyone.
For the sections that require a precise amount of money, ignore them for now. Keep in mind that every project needs to be viable and will require to be very cheap or even free to attract people.
That’s it for today! Remember to book a meeting after every lesson to practice what you just learned.
Also, Fill in your Canvas Business Model and turn it in. Your advisor will look at it closely and help you further.
Make a great effort and we’ll see each other very soon!
There’s a test coming up! No right or wrong answers. Give it a shot!
